Ancient Truth

Magic Raven's Year 41 pacer foal crop consisted of sixteen youngsters.  The following year, two of them galloped "freak", but excitement was tepid, considering the extreme competitiveness of the division.  A few weeks later, when they had their first workouts, one of the freaks worked substantially faster than the other.  That prompted a search through the SIM records, where it was discovered that ANCIENT TRUTH's time of 1:50.81 was the fastest ever recorded on the training track in the history of the game.  What's more, his next timed workout, five weeks later, resulted in any even faster time of 1:50.74.  Week 6 of his two-year-old season, while preparing for his debut, he not only lowered his own mark to 1:50.67, but that training time beat the SIM's track record of 1:50.70.

ANCIENT TRUTH already had a fan club when he debuted in the Week 9 New Jersey Juvenile Pace.   The four-horse field included a speed horse that had a ten-length lead by the half mile pole.  ANCIENT TRUTH started to close, but appeared to be in trouble.  Then, the final quarter, he exploded to the front and won going away by 4.5 lengths.  Even more amazing, he blew the official track record out of the solar system, by finishing in an astonishing 1:50.03.

He was third in each of his next two starts, after going off stride and being four wide, and then he returned to take the Steward's Cup by an easy 3.5 lengths over a full field, and thereby clinch the two-year-old championship.

The SIM's Standardbred breeds got a speed adjustment going into Year 44, and ANCIENT TRUTH wasted no time in establishing himself the fastest under the new parameters, winning his 3yo debut in 1:48.34.  His next two starts were third place finishes, when he again fought his driver and was wide.  In the Grade 1 Niatross Pace, he lost by a nose.  In the Grade 1 Western Dreamer Pace, he rebounded to not only win by 4.5 lengths, but he lowered his own track record to 1:48.27.  After being a disinterested third in the Grade 1 Big Blue Bucket Stakes, he clinched his second divisional championship with a comfortable 3/4 length victory in the Steward's Cup.

It was decided in the off season that ANCIENT TRUTH would ship to Australia for his 4yo campaign.  He was beaten a nose and a neck in the Grade 1 Outdominion Finale, and then took the Grade 1 Miraculous Mile by a length.  That kicked off a winning streak of four races, and then he was off stride and beaten two noses in the Grade 1 Australian Pacing Championship, before closing out the season with a neck victory in the Grade 1 Victoria Vase.  He was not only the divisional champion for the third time, but he was voted his breed's Horse of the Year.  The latter was the first time a Magic Raven homebred had ever garnered a HOTY honor.

ANCIENT TRUTH remained in Australia for the first part of his 5yo season, which resulted in three Grade 1 victories in a row.  In the Miraculous Mile, he shattered his own track record once again, going in 1:48.18, while winning by more than two lengths.  He also became the SIM's all time leading earner in pacers with a bankroll topping $2.3 million.   The Miraculous Mile would also prove to be his final victory.  ANCIENT TRUTH was shipped to the U.S., but could only place in three starts there, including losing the Steward's Cup by a half length.  Still, his Australian success earned him yet another divisional title.  Since he appeared to have lost his sharpest edge by season's end, a decision was made to ship him back to Australia to run in the two Grade 1 stakes early in the season, in an attempt to have him become the highest point earning representative of his breed, before retirement.

At age six, ANCIENT TRUTH drew the outside post for the Outdominion Finale, and it resulted in his only off the board effort, as he could only finish seventh while being hung out wide on the turns.  However, in his final start, the Miraculous Mile, his second place finish accomplished the goal of having him retire as the all time highest point earner for his breed, as well as the highest all time earner and, of course, the fastest ever.

With adding high nicks to his outstanding list of racing accomplishments, ANCIENT TRUTH is sure to be a highly successful sire.
